Longido is located at the base of Mount Longido approximately 60 kilometres north of Arusha and 20 kilometres south of the town of Namanga on the Tanzanian Kenyan border. Longido is one of the most accessible of the cultural tourism programs in the Arusha area for independent travellers and can be easily reached on public transport. From Arusha take one of the buses, Hiaces (dala dalas) or peugeots that go to the border town of Namanga or on to Nairobi. The journey should take about an hour and a half and cost about US$6. Upon arrival, don’t hesitate to ask for directions or assistance. To reach the Cultural Tourism Office, you should take the track near the police stand, heading in the direction of the mountain and proceed for about 300 meters. To reach the LOOCIP Centre, continue further along the same road for approximately one kilometre. |
